Met Breuer & Sant Ambroeus

We headed to the Upper East Side to see the Met Breuer‘s “Unfinished: Thoughts Left Visible” exhibition, which featured unfinished works by numerous artists including Paul Cezanne, Lucian Freud and Van Eyck.

These unfinished artworks were interesting because you could get a glimpse of the process the artists used as they worked. This Picasso painting is just pencil lines, with some sections filled in with paint and the rest left as raw canvas.

Off to one side there was an exhibit related to infinity.  I’ll admit I did not take the time to understand it.

Elsewhere in the galleries, there was also a very good Diane Arbus photography exhibition.

We had lunch at nearby Santa Ambroeus on Madison Ave, an unusually ritzy place for our tastes. The ambience was definitely Upper East Side, with quirky fellow diners and wait staff.

The food and service were very good but at $150 CAD for two salads, two coffees, a bottle of water and a shared dessert, a repeat visit is unlikely.
