The Real Alcázar (Royal Alcazar) in Seville is a Royal Palace constructed by a succession of Moorish Kings beginning around the year 913.
It is now a sprawling complex of beautiful buildings, gardens, fountains, and baths, and is one of the most visited sites in Seville. The royal family still uses some of the upper levels as an official residence.
On many interior surfaces, the decoration was in the traditional Islamic style, with intricate geometric patterns and the occasional Koranic inscription.
In the Ambassador’s Hall, the ceiling was decorated with a particularly stunning abstraction of the night sky.
Many rooms provide tantalizing glimpses of the courtyards outside.
Once outside, we found ourselves in a seemingly endless series of gardens and courtyards, built in different styles at different times by different rulers.
From here we simply wandered, appreciating the scenery.
